Top 100 Blogs — Technorati Versus Compete Ranking

We looked at the top 100 blogs ranked by authority on Technorati.com, and then looked up the unique monthly visitors on Compete.com. 

From the Technorati blog:

Technorati Authority is the number of blogs linking to a website in the last six months. The higher the number, the more Technorati Authority the blog has.

The best way to increase your Technorati Authority is to write things that are interesting to other bloggers so they’ll link to you. Linking to source material when you blog is also a great way to engage in conversation and help others find what you find interesting.

Note that Compete.com does not calculate the monthly visitors to subdirectories. That is why all of the wired blogs, for example, show the same visitor number of the parent subdomain, blog.wired.com.

We have done a number of rankings and analyses on various sites relevant to anyone starting a website or blog, such as top online newspapers, top ezine sites, and top press release distribution sites. It is a lot of tedious work. We were planning on doing the same for blogs, but someone already has a nice listing right here. We might come back later to audit the list and provide our comments, but for now, this is pretty decent. If you think anything is missing or you have a comment about the methodology or list, please let us know by commenting.

So here, we offer the 30 Most Popular Blogs ranked by a combination of Inbound Links from Yahoo Site Explore (entire site not including internal pages), Alexa Rank, and Compete and Quantcast U.S. Unique Monthly visitor data. Blogs that are only a part of a non-Blog site are not included (i.e. Google Blogs).
